i noticed that very few here like Tim Burton.
I personally think he's one of the most original, innovative and talented directors the cinema has.
He made incredibly funny comedies (Mars Attacks!, Pee-wee, Beetlejuice), entertaining blockbusters (Batman 1 & 2, Sleepy Hollow), and clever and personal movies like Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Vincent and Frankweenie.
I noticed that no one here mentioned him in his favorite list and stuff like that.
Do you like him?

Yeah man, I've always been a fan of Burton. Although he seemed to get too caught up in the whole hollywood munbo jumbo with APES but I am looking forward to his next project...BIG FISH. Should be good...and then Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...well we will see about that one.
But Yeah, Burton is decent in my eyes.

I am a fan of Burton's visual originality. But not of his work in general. I liked Sleepy Hollow, Batman and Scissorhands was alright. I don't think he is a hack or anything of the sort, he just isn't really my cup of tea. Like Kubrick. I loved A Clockwork Orange, but hated 2001.

he has a visual style all of his own, and he should be applauded for that... but you cant help but feel like for every good movie he has one which is visualy great but otherwise ******.
Sleepy Hallow is a perfect example... beautiful gothic world which is dark and creepy... but with a boring story told in a boring way. Is there even the slightest bit of chemistry between Ricci and Depp in that movie? I certainly didnt see any.

I personally love Sleepy Hollow. I know that the romance really doesn't fit in quite well, but who fu?king cares?
I can onestly tell that his last movies have lost a bit of the heart and the poetry from their beginnings (Vincent, Frankenweenie, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Ed Wood). Maybe he's experimenting with different genres and with BIG FISH and CHARLIE he will give us the RIGHT COMBIATION beetwenn his two periods.

Tim Burton has an absolutely fantastic visual style but, unfortunately, his storytelling technique is a fair bit below fantastic.
And any Tim Burton debate now can't go by without uttering the words 'Planet of the Apes' and 'Mr Burton, what the **** were you thinking!?'

I agree. His movies have great visuals (Nightmare before Christmas is great) but the stories...eh.

You guys all pretty much nailed it for me. I go to a Burton movie expecting a visual feast, but not much else. I've seen him on "The Directors" stating that he wouldn't know a good script if it bit him in the *** , which makes it clear that story is not what he looks for in a project so much as atmosphere. I still love his work though.
